Description

Helping at a small farm can be full of surprises particularly when baby goats are expected! This story is about an unexpected surprise, which was the birth of a goat born with only three legs on a cold fall morning on a little farm in Rhode Island. Nature has its way of throwing curve balls, sometimes with results that teach us about perspective, resilience, acceptance, and love. In this instance a baby goat (Peggy) was originally rejected by its confused mother and a little help was needed. This little goat was born with all the spunk and determination a newborn farm animal can possess which is a lesson in how attitude affects everything. Animals can be great equalizers and can model for us approaches to life which can help us navigate difficult situations. It is my hope that this story can provide some hope and a little courage to children who may be dealing with some form of struggle due to a disability, as well as a message to others to always remain kind and open-minded.

The author, Dale Lee Loomis, is a dear family friend and a retired teacher. Dale was our sons middle school science teacher, and she so graciously dedicated her book, "Perfectly Precious Peggy", to Brendan. Brendan was born four months premature and, as a result, lives with shunted hydrocephalus and bilateral spastic cerebral palsy. When Brendan was an infant, his doctor told us to prepare that he may never walk or talk, but God had other things in mind for Brendan. Brendan is the kindest, most caring, loving and generous person that we have ever known and we are so very proud of him and honored to be his parents. As for Brendan's initial diagnosis... he is a proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and he works full time for the U.S. Navy as a Computer Scientist.
